A Pottsville man is facing charges and nearly $1,000 in fines after allegedly abandoning a dog inside a locked storage unit in Norwegian Township.
Police determined the dog’s owner, William Cody, 24, of Pottsville, had abandoned her in the unit. Cody now faces two summary counts of neglect of animals and fines of up to $884.74.
State Police and staff from Hillside SPCA were called last week to Storage Sense, on Westwood Road, after customers reported hearing barking from inside one of the units. When they investigated, they found a boxer/pitbull mix—since named Bubbles—locked inside Unit F55.

The customers who discovered her purchased a bag of food to feed her while waiting for police and shelter staff to arrive. Shelter officials said there was no water in the unit, and troopers later noted in their citations that the floor was covered with fecal matter and no food available.
If convicted, Cody faces fines totaling up to $884.74.
Bubbles is now safe at Hillside SPCA. After being spayed, she could be ready for adoption within the next few weeks.
