Dog Found Abandoned Inside Locked Storage Unit Outside Pottsville

After 11 years working in dog rescue for Hillside SPCA, Pottsville, Haley Weist thought she’d seen it all.

But that changed Friday when Hillside got a call to help with a dog found in a storage unit at Storage Sense, just outside Pottsville.

Weist said customers of the storage facility heard a dog barking and alerted an employee there. That person opened the unit, and State Police at Schuylkill Haven responded.

Weist said State Police provided paperwork allowing Hillside to take possession of the dog, which was considered abandoned and without proper care.

Before Weist arrived, the customers who reported the barking dog had purchased dog food for it and provided water.

“There was a bag of dog food in the storage unit, and a bowl, but the bowl was empty and there was no water; it had to be hot in there,” Weist said. “The people who reported the barking have a little boy, who seemed to really like the dog, so I asked him to give her a name.”

Bubbles, guessed to be a boxer and pit bull mix, is a female about a year to a year and a half old, Weist said.

“We don’t know much about her so far, but her kennel is clean, definitely likes kids and she knows ‘Sit’,” Weist said. “She’ll be spayed in the next week or two and then she’ll be available for adoption.”

Police are investigating this incident.
