State Police have cited two trucking companies after their vehicles allegedly turned up at BRADS Landfill recently with serious defects.
During inspections conducted on-site at the Blythe Township landfill located along Burma Rd. on Aug. 23, vehicles owned by Southwest Metals LLC, of Philadelphia, and PA Direct Logistics, of Spring City, were found to allegedly have numerous safety and records violations.
An inspection of a vehicle owned by PA Direct Logistics was cited six times. This company was also cited and fined more than $2,800 for suspected violations found during an inspection at BRADS Landfill on July 21.
During the most recent inspection, fuel was leaking from an injector, a tire on the trailer measured just 30 PSI, a tractor axle wheel hub was leaking onto the wheel, a front turn signal on the truck wasn’t working, there were no International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) stickers on either side of the truck, and the vehicle had no insurance.
If found guilty of these violations, it’ll cost PA Direct Logistics $1,590 in fines.
Southwest Metals LLC is facing more in fines after being cited for 10 safety and records violations.
Inspectors say a tractor-trailer owned by this company failed an air brake air loss test. Neither front blinkers were working. Power steering fluid was leaking from the top of the steering box, which is an issue the company failed to fix from a previous inspection, according to records.
Further, an emergency brake hose was chafed through the reinforced ply on the trailer’s second axle, the vehicle’s frame was cracked at the first axle on both the driver’s and passenger’s side, and there was an audible air leak from a brake chamber on the trailer. Also, the vehicle’s ABS lamp was lit, inspectors noted.
The company is facing $2,733 in fines if found guilty on all the alleged violations found during this inspection.
