Schuylkill County Man Charged After Reported Assault Over Dog Dirt

Victim reportedly suffered a broken finger

A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after he allegedly shoved a man to the ground because he didn’t clean up his dog’s dirt earlier this summer.

According to court records, police in Schuylkill Haven were contacted by a man on the afternoon of June 30 who said he’d just been assaulted.

As police arrived on the scene, they spoke with the victim of this alleged incident who said he was walking his dog near the police station on W. Market St. The dog did his business near an apartment.

The apartment is owned by Mark Wesner, 60, of Schuylkill Haven.

Wesner allegedly confronted the dog owner and told him to clean up the mess his pet just left on the ground. The dog owner told police he told Wesner that he didnt’ have a bag on him and he’d come back with a shovel to clean up the dirt.

As the dog owner walked away, he said that Wesner approached him and shoved him in the back. This caused the man to fall forward and he used his hands to break his fall.

Police say the victim of this alleged incident had a swollen right hand and he had difficulty moving it. He also had a scraped kneecap and neck pain.

An ambulance was requested by police to arrive at the scene. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Police say they knocked on Wesner’s door to speak with him about the incident but there was no answer at his door.

Later, the victim reportedly shared the results of his hospital visit with police and those records revealed that he suffered a broken finger as a result of the incident.

Wesner has been charged with simple assault and harassment and been ordered to appear at a preliminary hearing to answer to these charges before Magisterial District Judge AJ Serina on Sept. 30.
