Evanchalk Inducted Into Schuylkill Conservation District Hall of Fame

District unveils new logo at annual awards dinner

Bob Evanchalk is the newest inductee into the Schuylkill Conservation District Hall of Fame.

Evanchalk was recognized for his decades of work and service to the organization’s efforts at the Conservation District’s annual awards dinner held last week at the Clubhouse at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, near Pine Grove.

To mark the induction, the Conservation District presented Evanchalk with a plaque featuring his picture that will be hung on the wall next to past inductees at the Conservation District’s headquarters outside Pottsville.

Porcupine Pat McKinney described Evanchalk’s work with the Conservation District as “exemplary.”

“This person has done so much to improve recreation, open space, and opportunities to get together possible,” McKinney said.

“I was just doing my best,” Evanchalk said.

In his remarks to those on hand to celebrate the occasion, Evanchalk remembered his first days at the Conservation District. He said his first job there was in the Solid Waste department, so his name tag read, “Bob Evanchalk – Solid Waste”.

He also noted the changes to Sweet Arrow Lake since it was made the first County Park 24 years ago.

Standing in the restored Clubhouse, Evanchalk recalled what it was at the turn of the Century.

“You couldn’t come down here. It wasn’t fit for anything,” Evanchalk said.

Evanchalk thanked the many partners and partner organizations he’s had and worked with over the years while working at the Conservation District.
