Police say a Schuylkill County man wanted on a felony parole violation led state and local police on a vehicle and foot pursuit in Pottsville before escaping into a wooded area.
According to court records, David Tavares, 38, of Minersville, was spotted driving a silver Subaru on W. Market St. in Pottsville at just before 6 p.m. on August 13.
A records check showed Tavares had an active felony warrant, and a State Trooper confirmed his identity through a PennDOT photo.
When police attempted a traffic stop on West End Ave., Tavares allegedly fled at speeds exceeding 50 mph through Pottsville and Mar Lin, running a stop sign and following vehicles too closely.
The pursuit ended on Walnut Lane, where Tavares abandoned his car and ran into a wooded area. Officers from Pottsville assisted in a search, but he was not caught.
Police say Tavares’s vehicle was towed and searched, turning up an iPhone and a medical marijuana package with his name.
Later that evening, trail camera footage from the area where he fled allegedly captured Tavares.
Investigators checked multiple addresses linked to Tavares but were unable to find him, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Related to this incident, Tavares is facing numerous charges, including felony flight to avoid apprehension, numerous misdemeanors related to his fleeing, and a raft of summary offenses for the alleged traffic violations.
Tavares was originally wanted on a parole violation due to a drug charge.
State Police are asking anyone with information on Tavares’ whereabouts to phone 570-754-4600 and remind anyone harboring him or helping him evade police are subject to prosecution.
