Schuylkill County Woman Jailed After Allegedly Trying to Burglarize Two Homes

Bensinger said she was looking for her father and wanted attention.

A Schuylkill County woman has been jailed after she allegedly tried to burglarize two homes in Port Carbon.

According to court documents, Troopers from State Police-Schuylkill Haven responded to a reported burglary in progress on Park Ave. in Port Carbon shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11.

When Troopers arrived, a suspect – identified as Kristen Bensinger, 39, of Port Carbon – was already in the custody of Saint Clair Police. Bensinger’s hands were covered in blood and broken glass was on the ground.

Troopers say they interviewed a resident of Park Ave. Earlier that night, the resident said he heard someone trying to gain entry through his front door. He said that the sound of glass breaking followed. Later, he learned that the broken glass was his front window.

Another resident of Park Ave. was interviewed by police that same night. They also told police that they heard someone trying to get in their home through the front door and the sound of broken glass. That, too, was the sound of their front window.

Police say they interviewed Bensinger and she reportedly said that she was trying to find her father and get attention. Bensinger, they say, was under the influence of alcohol and appeared confused and disoriented.

Bensinger was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge AJ Serina and charged with two felony counts of burglary along with counts of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct.

Serina set bail at $25,000 cash and Bensinger was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison, where she remains.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 23.
