A 14-year-old male was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly possessing a handgun.
Police in Pottsville say they were dispatched to the area of Rotary Playground at 20th and W. Norwegian streets at about 8:20 p.m. for a report of a male with a gun. When they arrived, they made contact with a 14-year-old male from Pottsville who matched the description given to them by Schuylkill County dispatchers.
At the time, the area near the playground was heavily populated due to the Yorkville Hose block party.
During their investigation, police say they recovered a Hi-Point C9 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number from the male.
Police say they took the teen into custody and he was turned over to Schuylkill County Juvenile Justice Dept. and placed into a juvenile detention facility. It was later learned that the handgun had been stolen from a vehicle in Mechanicsville.
The teen is facing charges of possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer’s number, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, all felonies, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a firearm by a minor.
