A Schuylkill County man was jailed after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife over the weekend.
According to police in Pottsville, officers were called to W. Market and N. Centre streets at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. There, they met the victim who said that her husband, Michael Bell, 62, had threatened to kill her and she was in fear for her life.
Earlier in the day, the couple were arguing over money and when the victim attempted to leave the house, Bell allegedly threw her walker down the stairs and told her she couldn’t leave.
The victim did eventually leave the home and made her way downtown, where Bell allegedly caught up to her and said multiple times, “I’m going to kill you. I promise you that.” He then allegedly pushed the victim against a wall.
A witness confirmed to police what was alleged to have happened downtown.
Police arrested Bell at his home in the 700 block of W. Market St. At the residence, police say they found a black pocket knife on the floor. Bell reportedly told police that he was in possession of the knife during the argument earlier in the day.
Bell was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and charged with making terroristic threats and harassment. Tarantelli set bail at 10% of $2,000, which hasn’t been posted and Bell remains locked up in Schuylkill County Prison.
