Schuylkill County Man Reportedly Dragged Woman By Neck During Domestic Assault

Dimetrius Crawley facing felony charges

A Schuylkill County man was jailed following a reported domestic dispute over the weekend during which he allegedly dragged a woman by the neck.

Police in Shenandoah say they were dispatched to two separate calls at addresses on E. Lloyd and W. Coal streets at about 2 a.m. on July 26.

At E. Lloyd St., police say they spoke with Dimetrius Crawley, 30, who told them that they’d been attacked by a woman, who ripped his shirt and hit him. Police say there was no evidence this had happened, however.

At W. Coal St., police spoke with the victim of this alleged domestic assault. She told police that Crawley had come to her house to hang out. She said that was OK but he couldn’t try to have sex with her that night.

Crawley reportedly ignored that and made sexual advances on her, which she rejected.

The victim said Crawley then grabbed her phone from inside her bra and walked toward the kitchen. As the victim attempted to get her phone back, Crawley pushed her down and smashed her phone on the floor.

Crawley then allegedly put the victim in a headlock to the point that she could not breathe. He then dragged the victim by the neck to the front of the house and let her go. Crawley then hit the woman in the face, causing one of her eyes to swell, police say.

A juvenile witness to this incident confirmed the victim’s side of the story, police report.

Crawley was taken into custody and brought before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko and charged with strangulation and robbery, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of simple assault and criminal mischief, and a summary offense of harassment.

Plachko set bail at 10% of $35,000 and Crawley was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison. Bond was posted on Monday and Crawley has been released from jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 7 before Judge Anthony Kilker.
