Schuylkill County Man Charged in Graphic Child Sex Abuse Case

Jalvi Nunez behind bars on $100K bail

A Schuylkill County man is behind bars after investigators say he committed sex acts in front of and against his infant and recorded a video of it.

According to court records prepared by the state Attorney General’s Office, on July 5, police in Shenandoah received an assignment to contact a woman regarding her grandchild.

The grandmother said she saw a video reportedly showing 19-year-old Jalvi Nunez performing a sex act on himself while standing in front of his 8-month-old child.

Shenandoah Police contacted the victim’s mother who reportedly said that on July 3, she and Nunez were at a friend’s house in Frackville to watch the fireworks.

At about 2-3 a.m. that night, the victim’s mother began looking through Nunez’ phone and came across the purported video in his deleted files folder.

The victim’s mother told police the video also included physical contact of a sexual nature involving the child. She said by the looks of the video, it appeared that this incident occurred in Nunez’ mother’s house in Shenandoah and believes the person in the video is Nunez because of a distinctive tattoo on the back of his hand, which is seen in the video.

When the victim’s mother confronted Nunez about this video, he reportedly said that he was depressed, lonely, and not in his right mind because the couple split.

The victim’s mother told police that Nunez repeatedly contacted her to apologize the next day.

On Wednesday, the state’s Attorney General’s Office obtained a search warrant signed by Magisterial District Court Judge Anthony Kilker to seize Nunez’ phone that allegedly contained this video.

Nunez was found at a home in Frackville.

When questioned, Nunez reportedly made statements indicating remorse, including “something took over me and I did what I did.”

Nunez reportedly did not want to talk about his actions in the video but said, “I did and I realized what I did and it can damage someone.”

Nunez’ phone will be undergoing a forensic analysis.

In the meantime, charges of sexual abuse of children, criminal use of a communication device, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, incest, endangering the welfare of a child, and corruption of minors, all felonies, and indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, have been filed against Nunez.

Nunez was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley on Wednesday night. Reiley set bail at $100,000 cash and remanded Nunez to Schuylkill County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for July 17 before Kilker.
