A Schuylkill County man has been charged with rape and other related offenses for events that allegedly took place late last month.
According to court documents, Troopers from State Police at Frackville were dispatched to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville during the early-morning hours of June 29. There, police say they spoke with a woman who said she was the victim of rape. The incident allegedly occurred hours earlier at a home in Shenandoah.
The victim reportedly told police that the events leading up to the alleged rape began at a Shenandoah bar. She was out with a friend when she was approached by an unknown male—later identified as Alberth Quinones, of Shenandoah—who made unwanted advances toward her.
Despite her objections, the victim’s friend reportedly invited Quinones back to her residence in Shenandoah. In an interview with police several days later, the victim’s friend reportedly told police she was intoxicated that night and made a poor decision by inviting Quinones back from the bar.
Quinones reportedly left the home, and the victim said she left soon afterward. When she stepped outside, she told police, she found Quinones sitting in a parked SUV.
The victim said she returned to her friend’s residence and locked the door. However, her friend had invited another man over, and both women became concerned. At that point, they invited Quinones back inside. The victim told police that her friend suggested she take Quinones to a bedroom while they tried to get the other man to leave.
While in the bedroom, Quinones allegedly attacked the victim and forced himself on her. Afterward, he allegedly gave her $25, and she left and went home.
During an interview with police, Quinones said he believed the women invited him to their home because they thought he had a lot of money and wanted some from him. He said that was why he gave the alleged victim $25 after the incident.
Quinones also told police that after he and the woman had sex, her friend began yelling at him. He claimed he believed she wanted more money, so he left to get additional cash.
The victim’s friend later told police that Quinones returned to her house after the alleged assault and tried to give her $200, which she refused.
Quinones was arraigned Thursday morning before District Magistrate Judge Anthony Kilker and charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and sexual assault, all first-degree felonies, along with misdemeanor offenses of indecent assault and indecent exposure.
Kilker set bail at $100,000 cash, which wasn’t posted and Quinones was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison, pending a preliminary hearing currently scheduled for July 17.
