A Pottsville man was arrested and charged with felony criminal trespass and resisting arrest early Sunday morning.
According to information released by Pottsville Bureau of Police, officers were called to an apartment in the 700 block of W. Market St. shortly before 6:30 a.m. They 9-1-1 caller reportedly said a man – identified as 52-year-old Michael Labounty – just kicked in the door to the apartment and would not leave.
Police arrived at the scene. Labounty was found in the yard next to the apartment building, they say. He reportedly said he was there to collect his belongings but the door was locked.
At the entrance to that apartment, police say they saw damage to the door jamb and it wasn’t able to latch properly.
The person who summoned police told officers they were in another room and heard a loud bang coming from the kitchen area. When they went to the kitchen, Labounty was standing there and he refused to leave. Another witness inside the apartment confirmed this story, police say.
Labounty reportedly resisted arrest by refusing to put his hands behind his back. A brief altercation between he and police resulted in a minor hand injury for one officer but Labounty was eventually taken into custody.
He was arraigned Sunday before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina with bail set at $15,000 cash, which hasn’t been posted. Labounty was sent to Schuylkill County Prison pending a preliminary hearing.
