A Schuylkill County man is accused of breaking into a home and threatening the residents with a baseball bat and an axe.
According to court documents, Troopers from State Police-Frackville were dispatched to a home in Kline Township on the night of April 12 for a reported break-in.
When police arrived, they say they observed the suspect – identified as Patrick McCarthy, 41, of McAdoo – walking east on Mountain Top Terrace, just above the residence where he was accused of breaking in and threatening the residents.
McCarthy was placed in cuffs and reportedly admitted to police that he’d just entered the home through the garage, looking for the previous residents.
Police then interviewed the alleged victims of the break-in. They say they were upstairs in their living when they heard a bang in the garage. Soon after that, the victims say McCarthy appeared at the top of the stairs, holding an axe and a baseball bat.
The victims told police they demanded that McCarthy leave their home. McCarthy, however, kept asking about the previous owners. When the current residents said the previous owners weren’t there, McCarthy allegedly got agitated.
McCarthy then allegedly began swinging the axe and the bat, saying “I’m going to f*** you up!” After continually being told to leave, McCarthy then did leave, exiting the way he entered, through the garage.
A relative of McCarthy’s was interviewed, police say, and said that he was obsessed with the previous owners of the home where he’d broken in with the bat and axe.
McCarthy was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko early Sunday morning. He was charged with one count of burglary, a first-degree felony, and criminal trespass, a third-degree felony. He’s also been charged with numerous misdemeanors, including simple assault and reckless endangerment.
Plachko set bail at $50,000 cash, which wasn’t posted, and McCarthy was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison, where he remains at the time of this post going live.
