A Schuylkill County woman is facing charges over an alleged incident that happened days before she was supposed to get married.
According to court documents, Saint Clair Police responded to a reported domestic violence incident on Bacon St. in Palo Alto on March 7. Saint Clair provides police coverage for Palo Alto.
At the scene, police say they encountered a man standing outside the residence. He was bleeding from the mouth from a laceration on his upper lip and spitting blood on the ground. The alleged victim also had a swollen and red face.
He reportedly told police that he and his fiancé – identified as Kaila Strouse, 23 – had gotten into a verbal argument over a man texting her. The victim said Strouse got up off the bed after he’d taken her phone and punched him in the face twice.
The victim reportedly told police that they’d both been drinking prior to this incident and that they had plans to get married the Monday following this incident.
Strouse reportedly told police a similar story but said that the victim began hitting himself to try and get her in trouble and that she did not hit him.
Police say they asked Strouse if that’s something a person would do. Strouse reportedly answered that the victim suffers from depression and hadn’t been taking his medication.
Strouse had a small scratch on her hand, police say. She said she got that scratch from putting a TV stand together earlier in the day.
Police have filed charges against Strouse for simple assault, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary offense. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for April 22 before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko.
