Former Schuylkill Have Man Charged with Abuse of Mother’s Corpse

Ahn lived in Schuylkill County in 2024, based on court records.

A former Schuylkill Haven man is accused of abusing his mother’s corpse.

According to a report filed by Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Dept., officers were dispatched Monday afternoon to a suspicious incident in the 100 block of Fruitville Pike in Penn Township, Lancaster County.

At that location, police spoke with the estranged sister of Kevin Hyun Ahn, 31, who said her brother was outside her home “acting weird.”

Ahn, police say, has no fixed address and his last known address is in Schuylkill Haven. Based on court records, it appears Ahn lived in Schuylkill County in 2024, when he pled guilty to summary disorderly conduct charges in January, March, and August.

The sister told police that her brother is not welcome at her home. Ahn had his mother’s vehicle at the time. Following an argument between the siblings centered around his presence there, Ahn fled the scene.

He returned back about a half-hour later and had a confrontation with his brother-in-law outside that same home.

Both Ahn’s sister and her husband confronted Ahn and noticed an unresponsive person across the rear seat and floor of the siblings’ mother’s vehicle. The person was covered “in household goods,” police say.

The couple questioned Ahn about the person and called police. That caused Ahn to flee the scene once again.

An officer from NLCRPD and Warwick EMS responded to the scene and determined the person in the back seat of that vehicle was dead. Police say the deceased is Hyun Ahn, 61, the mother of the siblings.

Ahn, who had fled on foot from his sister’s home following that last confrontation, was found near East Ferdinand and S. Main streets in Manheim a short time later.

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office is currently working with law enforcement officials in Maryland to fully investigate the death of Hyun Ahn.

Ahn was arrested and arraigned before District Magistrate Judge William Mankin II on Tuesday morning. Bail was denied because Mankin determined no amount of money could guarantee Ahn’s appearance at future court dates.

Ahn has been charged with a single count of abuse of corpse, a second-degree misdemeanor. Additional charges may be filed, police say.
