Blankenhorn Signs a Minor League Contract with LA Angels

Batting 1-2 in 2 games so far this Spring

Travis Blankenhorn has found his way back into a Major League Baseball organization.

On March 6, the Los Angeles Angels signed the Pottsville native to a minor league contract. Blankenhorn appeared on an Angels lineup card for a Cactus League game on March 18.

So far this Spring, Blankenhorn, 28, has gone 1-for-2 at the plate and appeared in 2 games.

Earlier this year, Blankenhorn signed a contract with Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos of Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.

According to MLBTradeRumors.com, the Angels appear to have some depth at the positions regularly played by Blankenhorn so playing time may not come easily.

Last year, Blankenhorn went 4-for-31 with 5 RBI in several stints with the Washington Nationals. Otherwise, he spent most of his time with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings of the International League.

In the minors last year, Blankenhorn hit 24 home runs and drove in 69 runs for the Red Wings. He was named team MVP.

Blankenhorn was originally drafted in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins.
