Convicted rapist Hakeem Lee is now facing a new charge following an alleged incident at Schuylkill County Prison earlier this month.
According to court documents, at about 5:30 p.m. on March 4, corrections officers at Schuylkill County Prison were attempting to conduct a cell change for Lee.
Lee is housed at Schuylkill County Prison while he awaits sentencing after being convicted of raping a Schuylkill County woman in March 2024. He was found guilty by a jury back in January. He’s facing up to life in prison.
Officers at the prison say Lee ignored orders to “cuff up” so his cell was opened. When they opened his cell door, officers say Lee was standing in an aggressive position and had a white cloth wrapped around his knuckles.
One officer entered Lee’s cell and used The G.L.O.V.E. (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter) device in an attempt to get the inmate to comply with orders to put on cuffs.
Brief contact was made with Lee and that caused the inmate to fall backward into his bunk. Once again, he was ordered to put on cuffs and when Lee appeared to be complying, The G.L.O.V.E. was turned off, officers say.
Lee then allegedly turned his head toward one of the officers and spit in his face before handcuffs were applied.
A warrant for Lee’s arrest was signed by District Magistrate Judge James Reiley on Tuesday. He’s being charged with a single count of aggravated assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony.
