Schuylkill County Man Throws Rock, Damages Vehicle, Police Say

Rock caused more than $1,000 in damage

A Schuylkill County man is facing several charges after police say he threw a rock at a vehicle and then kicked it, causing more than $1,000 in damage.

According to an affidavit filed by police in Saint Clair earlier this week, the incident happened back on Feb. 24 at about 9:30 a.m.

At that time, police say David Tavares, 38, of Minersville, threw a rock at the back of a vehicle containing one woman and his daughter. They say they were listening to music in the vehicle before the daughter had to go to work.

The woman told police it sounded like a “meteor smash into the car” when Tavares threw it. After Tavares threw the rock, the woman told police she saw Tavares “boot” the vehicle. She also told police that Tavares said the rock was supposed to smash her head.

Tavares, she said, fled on foot and got into vehicle and drove away from the scene.

The daughter confirmed the story, according to police. Police say they found a rock at the scene of where this incident allegedly happened.

An estimate on the damage done to the vehicle was submitted to police in the amount of $1,147.68. That covers a smashed tail light, chipped and scratched paint on the trunk, smashed rear reflectors, and scratches on the bumper.

Police have charged Tavares with making terroristic threats, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors, as well as a summary offense for harassment.

Tavares has been ordered to appear before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko on April 15 for a preliminary hearing.
