Schuylkill County Man Says He Was Jumped By Ex’s Three Children

One suspect in the incident charged with aggravated assault

A Schuylkill County man claims he was assaulted by his ex’s children, who were upset about him moving back in with their mother.

According to an affidavit filed by State Police-Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred on Jan. 22 in Porter Township. Police responded to a reported assault, but the four suspects had already fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim told police he was attacked in the driveway of the Porter Township residence he shares with his ex. He said her children were unhappy she had allowed him to move back in.

At some point that day, the victim said he went outside to his vehicle to smoke a cigarette. While outside, another vehicle pulled into the driveway behind him. Three people exited the vehicle and started walking toward him. The victim said he got out of his vehicle to confront the group, leading to a verbal argument.

He identified the individuals confronting him as his ex’s children. The confrontation turned physical, with the victim saying he began wrestling with Kyle Leitzel, 22, of Myerstown, Lebanon County, one of his ex’s children. During this struggle, the victim believed another male kicked him in the face. He reported being punched and kicked multiple times by all four suspects.

Police interviewed the ex, who said she exited the house when she heard fighting and attempted to separate those involved. She identified all the suspects as her son Kyle Leitzel, two other children, and her daughter’s friend.

Surveillance video from the scene reportedly showed the victim initially back away before wrestling on the ground with Leitzel. Another suspect, Jordan Williams, is seen punching the victim in the back, while a juvenile suspect kicks him in the side. When the ex emerges from the house, Leitzel allegedly punches the victim several more times and kicks him in the face. The ex’s daughter is also reportedly captured on video yelling at the victim and kicking him in the buttocks.

Police noted that the ex later mentioned the victim had told her on the night of the incident he brought a friend home because he feared being jumped. However, she was unaware why he believed he was in danger.

Police also spoke with the ex’s daughter, who reportedly said she did not witness the assault because she remained in the car. She told police they had gone to their mother’s house twice that day, with only a verbal altercation occurring initially. Afterward, she received a text from the victim indicating his desire to fight Leitzel. The victim’s text reportedly read, “Come back odds are not four on one now.”

Currently, court records show charges filed only against Leitzel. He faces charges of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; simple assault and corruption of minors, both misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary offense. No charges against the other suspects have yet been filed.
