Blue Mountain School District Superintendent will likely retire at the end of the 2024-25 school term.
At tonight’s Blue Mountain school board meeting, members will vote to accept Helsel’s intent to retire letter. The agenda indicates Helsel will retire on June 30, 2025.
Board members will also likely vote on an agreement between the school district and Templeton Advantage LLC to conduct an executive Superintendent search and for the firm to provide transition services to Blue Mountain.
The cost estimate for Templeton Advantage’s services, including travel and printing expenses is $15,000.
Helsel was hired as Blue Mountain Superintendent in 2015. In 2018, Helsel gained national notoriety when he championed the idea of putting a 5-gallon bucket of river stones in each classroom as a combative measure against potential school shooters.
This evening’s board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at Blue Mountain Middle School.
