Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Deputy Injured While Serving PFA

A Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured this week while serving a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order in Pottsville.

According to an affidavit filed in District Court, the incident happened on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 13, in the 600 block of N. 2nd St. Deputies arrived at the home there to serve a PFA on Tyler Porter, 34, evicting him from the residence.

After the deputies knocked on the door, Porter answered and reportedly said, “F*** you! Get the f*** off my porch!”

Porter then slammed the door in the deputies’ faces and went back in the home. The deputies say they then called for backup from police in Pottsville and four officers arrived.

Deputies again knocked on the front door and Porter answered in an aggressive manner, they say, swinging the front door open. Porter then reportedly said, “Get the f*** out of here!”

Porter then took a swing at one deputy with a closed fist. They then entered the residence in an attempt to arrest Porter. Porter then allegedly started fighting both deputies and the four Pottsville Police officers.

“Substantial force” was needed to detain Porter, the deputies say. While this was happening, Porter repeatedly said, “I’m going to f***ing kill you!”

During the struggle, one of the Sheriff’s deputies suffered a laceration to his hand that required medical attention from Schuylkill EMS personnel.

Porter was arraigned Thursday night before District Magistrate Judge Edward Tarantelli. He’s been charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and misdemeanors for simple assault and resisting arrest.

Tarantelli set bail at $75,000 and remanded Porter to Schuylkill County Prison, where he remains as of Friday. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Feb. 26 before Judge James Reiley.
