Schuylkill County Man Facing Child Endangerment Charge Following Alleged Domestic Violence Incident

A Schuylkill County man was jailed following a domestic incident earlier this month that resulted in child endangerment charges.

According to an affidavit filed by State Police-Frackville, Troopers were called to a home in Rush Township shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 for a report of a domestic dispute. Police say a verbal argument between a husband and wife escalated, and during the incident, their child was injured.

The man, identified as 55-year-old Joseph Kmetz, was taken into custody and charged with endangering the welfare of children, a third-degree felony. He also faces misdemeanor charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment, along with a summary offense of harassment.

Kmetz was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge Edward Tarantelli, who set bail at $25,000. He was initially remanded to Schuylkill County Prison but was released on bond on Feb. 10. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 18 before Judge Stephen Bayer.
