Police in Minersville are investigating an incident in the borough they’re calling a murder-suicide.
According to information released by Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers Thursday, officers were dispatched today to 314 Arlene St. to perform a welfare check on a person who hadn’t been to work in three days.
Police say they forced their way into the home and inside, discovered that Steven Cox, 60, shot and killed his wife, Tammy. Cox reportedly shot his wife at point-blank range while she was sleeping. He then turned the gun on himself.
It’s believed this murder-suicide happened sometime between Feb. 11-12.
Both people were transported from the scene by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office. A virtual autopsy and toxicology testing will be performed.
