Freeland Man Charged with Aggravated Assault, Jailed, Following Reported Domestic Assault

A Freeland man is in Schuylkill County Prison after police say he punched a woman in the face numerous times.

According to an affidavit filed by State Police-Frackville, the incident happened on Jan. 31. Police say they got a report of an active domestic dispute on Mile Hill Rd., near Lofty Rd. in Kline Township, Schuylkill County.

As Troopers arrived on scene, they spoke with a woman who said she was on her way home from a party with Daniel Hagans, 29, when they got into a fight over him seeing her phone. Hagans allegedly became irate and began punching her in the face with a closed fist. 

Police say those punches caused cuts, bruising, and swelling to the victim’s face. The injuries caused the woman to pull to the side of the road. At that time, Hagans reportedly grabbed the woman’s phone and threw it on the road, causing it to break.

Hagans ran toward McAdoo. An initial search for Hagans came up empty. However, he was arraigned on Feb. 1 before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina. Police have charged Hagans with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony, and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief. Hagans has also been charged with disorderly conduct and harassment, each summary offenses.

Serina set bail at $25,000 and remanded Hagans to Schuylkill County Prison. Court records show bail hasn’t been posted as of Feb. 9. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 12 in front of Judge Edward Tarantelli.
