An ice storm is expected to impact Schuylkill County tonight into Thursday morning.
National Weather Service-State College has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Schuylkill County. It goes into effect at 10 p.m. tonight and expire at noon on Thursday, Feb. 6.
The ice storm will likely start as snow and then transition to sleet, freezing rain, and freezing drizzle before changing to rain Thursday afternoon.
Snow is possible starting after 1 this afternoon but more likely this evening until about 10 p.m. Snow will mix with sleet overnight until about 1 a.m. Thursday. Freezing rain and sleet take over until about 10 a.m. Thursday. Rain and freezing rain are possible until early afternoon Thursday.
About an inch of snow and sleet is possible through Wednesday night. An ice accumulation about about one-tenth of an inch is also likely tonight. Another half-inch of sleet is likely on Thursday.
Ice is likely to adversely affect travel conditions tonight and Thursday morning.
A high temperature of just 31 degrees is expected today with a low of 24 degrees tonight.
On Thursday, tempatures should get above freezing in the afternoon. A high of 39 degrees is expected. A low of 31 degrees is in the forecast at night.
We’ll get a break from the wintry precip on Friday but snow and freezing rain are in the forecast for Saturday.
