A Pottsville man is in Schuylkill County Prison today after police say they found him with a 15-year-old girl at the Pottsville Motor Inn.
According to information released today by Pottsville Bureau of Police, Reginald Spencer, 40, is charged with having sex with the teen inside the motel room early Monday morning, Jan. 27.
The police investigation into Spencer began at about 8:40 a.m. Monday when they were contacted by the mother of the teen, reporting her missing. The mother told police that her daughter went for an 18-minute ride at about 3 a.m. Monday. Through the Life360 app, it showed the daughter’s phone near the Dairy Queen on Route 61 in the city.
Police went to Pottsville Motor Inn and ownership there said Spencer checked in to Room 103 with another occupant. Upon arrival at that room, Spencer answered the door. Police say the girl reported missing was also in the room with him.
The teen reportedly told police that she didn’t know Spencer was 40 years old. They first met a couple weeks prior when Spencer offered to give her a ride. At that time, she said, Spencer told her that he was 20 years old.
Police report that as part of their investigation, these two met once prior to the incident on Monday.
At Pottsville Motor Inn, the teen girl said once they arrived Spencer rolled a joint and that she took a few hits from it. She said she doesn’t remember much after taking a few hits from that joint but does remember the two of them having intercourse.
Police say that during their interview with Spencer, he initially lied about everything except for the fact that he and the teen were together. He said they were at the motel room just to hang out and then they both fell asleep. Spencer reportedly told police that it was the teen who lied about her age, saying that she was in college.
Eventually, police say, Spencer admitted to giving the girl some of his medicinal marijuana and that that led to them having sex. Police say they also learned that Spencer sent multiple nude photos of himself to the girl as well as a video of himself involved in a sex act. He allegedly “begs” the teen to send him nudes of herself, which she eventually did, police say.
Spencer is being charged multiple first-degree felonies for statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and unlawful contact with a minor. He’s also facing felony charges of corruption of minors, possessing child sexual abuse material, and criminal use of a communication facility. Misdemeanor charges of indecent assault of a person less than 16 years old, indecent exposure, and corruption of minors have also been filed against Spencer.
He was arraigned Monday evening before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina, who remanded Spencer to Schuylkill County Prison on $50,000 cash bail.
