A Pottsville man was sent to Schuylkill County Prison Friday, accused of assault against his girlfriend who is eight months pregnant.
According to information from Pottsville Bureau of Police, officers were dispatched to Market Square Apartments Friday for a reported domestic dispute. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman sitting on the living room floor, holding her stomach and crying from pain.
Police say the woman was bleeding from the tip of her left ring finger. She reportedly told police that her boyfriend, Kyrell Improta, 19, of Pottsville, punched her in the in head with a closed fist and also struck her on the side of her abdomen with his elbow.
The woman also told police she was experiencing severe pain in her lower abdominal region. She was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville for evaluation, police say.
Improta was taken into custody in the 900 block of W. Race St. and arraigned before DIstrict Magistrate Judge James Reiley on Friday. He’s been charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor and summary harassment.
Reiley set bail at 10% of $5,000, which hasn’t been posted as of Saturday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3 before Reiley.
