A Pottsville man was arraigned late this morning following an alleged shooting just before 1 a.m. Monday.
Keron Diwilliam Shockley, 32, of Pottsville, was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley on Monday. He’s been charged with one count of attempted criminal homicide, prohibited possession of a firearm, two counts of aggravated assault possession of a gun without a license reckless endangerment, simple assault, possession of instruments of crime, tampering with physical evidence, loitering and prowling at night, and disorderly conduct.
Shockley was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison without bail.
According to an affidavit filed by Pottsville Bureau of Police, officers were called to the 300 block of E. Norwegian St. for a report of shots fired. Police arrived at the 7-11 store and spoke with a witness who said he observed an altercation between two white and one black man in the area of the Phoenix Fire Co. building on E. Norwegian St.
Police say they then went to that area and saw a male gunshot victim. He had been shot one time in the buttocks. The victim reportedly told police he was involved in an altercation with a black man prior to his being shot and that he’d been in the 7-11 at the same time as his assailant prior to getting shot.
Near the scene, police say they found eight spent 10mm shell casings in the 300 block of E. Norwegian St.
Another witness told police they saw a black man wearing a gray beanie with a black puffy coat flee the area and run east on E. Market St.
Just before 1 a.m., police were canvassing the area around the alleged shooting and saw a man running south near the area of N. Wolf and E. Norwegian streets. The man running matched the description given to police prior, they say. He was eventually taken into custody on Snyder St. and identified as Shockley.
Later, a Hi-Point 10mm was recovered from a trash can in front of 540 E. Norwegian St. Police later learned that the gun was registered to a woman with whom Shockley was living. Police also discovered a black puffy jacket between two parked cars on Snyder St., near where Shockley was apprehended.
Police later learned that Shockley was convicted of burglary in 2022 and was not permitted to possess a firearm.
