Police in Minersville are actively investigating an incident in which two pedestrians were struck on a borough street earlier this week, causing a boy to suffer a fractured pelvis.
According to information from Minersville Police Dept., the incident happened on Jan. 7 at about 10:30 a.m. At that time, a 37-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son were crossing North St. from N. 5th St. in a “clearly marked crosswalk.”
At the same time, a Toyota RAV4 driven by Carol Shimsky, 62, of Minersville, was headed south on N. 5th St. As that vehicle approached North St., Shimsky stopped at the Stop sign, police say.
Shimsky then turned left onto the 400 block of North St. and struck both pedestrians, knocking them on the ground and causing serious injuries, police say.
The boy was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of his injury. The woman suffered a hand injury after police say the vehicle’s tire drove over her hand while she was on the ground.
Police say that charges against Shimsky are pending a completed investigation.
