Schuylkill County is under a Winter Weather Advisory for late Friday night into early Saturday morning. The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Freezing rain is possible during that time as temperatures drop slightly below freezing. The freezing rain may cause roads and sidewalks to become very slippery during that time.
National Weather Service says little to no ice accumulation is expected and the freezing rain should turn to plain rain in Pottsville after 4 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28. A low temperature of 31 degrees is expected overnight tonight into Saturday morning.
Although we’re expected to be drenched in a mostly sunny sky during the day on Friday, with a high of 39 degrees, the weekend ahead looks rather wet, starting with tonight’s bout of potentially freezing rain.
On Saturday, up to one-half inch of rain is expected during the day with another quarter-inch of rain at night.
Sunday brings another bout of rain, somewhat heavier, with up to one inch of rain during the day and another three-quarters of an inch at night. Wind gusts on Sunday could be as high as 24 mph.
The good news: It’ll be rather warm this weekend, especially for this time of year. A high temp of 44 is expected on Saturday. The high temperature on Sunday is expected to be 57 degrees.
The weekend rain could last into early Monday before a short break. However, rain may dampen New Year’s Eve festivities on Tuesday, especially at night and into New Year’s Day.
Temperatures are expected to return to normal later next week.
