A Brockton man is facing charges after police say he admitted to using the credit card of an elderly man for whom his wife cares for to pay a garbage bill buy things for work on Amazon.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Saint Clair Police, Matthew Uroskie, 34, of Brockton, admitted to them that he took photos of a credit card owned by an elderly Saint Clair man earlier this year and used the information to make unauthorized purchases.
Uroskie’s wife, Stephanie Brish, provided in-home medical care for the elderly Saint Clair man and reportedly says she didn’t know anything about her husband’s activities. Uroskie said he would sometimes help his wife tend to the elderly man’s needs.
Police say they were first alerted to the illegal activity by the son-in-law of the elderly man, who reviewed financial statements of his father-in-law and noticed several payments that were out of the ordinary. One of them was for $411.80 paid to the Pennsylvania Muncipal Service Company.
When police questioned Uroskie about this purchase, he said it was to pay a garbage bills.
There were two other purchases on another account owned by the elderly man which appeared suspicious to the son-in-law. They were for $212 and $9.53. Uroskie allegedly told police that those were Amazon purchases and that he “bought something for work.”
Uroskie is facing a third-degree felony charge of access device fraud, and misdemeanor charges of identity theft, financial exploitation of a care-dependent person, and theft. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Jan. 28, 2025, before District Magistrate Judge Dave Plachko.
