A Pottsville man is in Schuylkill County Prison following an incident over the weekend in which he bit part of a man’s ear off.
According to Pottsville Bureau of Police, they were dispatched to Laurel Terrace after being notified of a 9-1-1 call that had a lot of commotion in the background.
Police showed up at that location and couldn’t find the 9-1-1 caller. They then made contact with the caller who said they were in the 400 block of E. Market St. with a man who had three lacerations on his face. The caller said that Albert Costanzo, 31, slashed the man and was potentially out in front of that apartment and armed with a knife.
After showing up at that E. Market St. location, police say they didn’t find Costanzo. They got in touch with the slashing victim and saw injuries to his face. The victim said he was cut in the face with a knife and that Costanzo bit off part of his ear.
That victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
Police searched the area of the alleged incident and say they found a knife and a piece of the victim’s ear. Costanzo was eventually taken into custody in the 400 block of E. Market St.
Costanzo was arraigned Saturday night before District Magistrate James Reiley and charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault as well as several misdemeanors. Reiley remanded Costanzo to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 bail, which hasn’t been posted. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Dec. 30.
