Pottsville Rotary Honors December 2024 Students of the Month

Pottsville Rotary Club has named its December Students of the Month.

Students are chosen from Pottsville Area High School, Minersville Area High School, and Nativity BVM High School. The students were honored at a Rotary Club meeting held Dec. 4 at Vito’s Coal Fired Restaurant, Saint Clair.

These are the Students of the Month for December 2024:

Julie Szeliga

Julie Szeliga is the daughter of Jacqueline and Andrew Szeliga, Pottsville. Her school activities consist of: Vice President of Mini-THON, Student Council Secretary, Cross Country, Track, Alpha Iota Delta (AID), and Key Club.

In the community, Julie was a volunteer for the 2023 Central Pennsylvania Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership conference.

After graduation, Julie plans to attend the University of Delaware and Major in Neuroscience to become a Neurologist.

Gavin Woodward

Gavin Woodward is the son of Jennifer and George Woodward, Pottsville. His school activities include Soccer, Track and Field, SADD, Foreign Language Club, Student Council, Class Representative – Secretary, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honors Society, and Prom Committee.

In the community, Gavin helped clean up and mulch Barefield Recreation Complex for Soccer and he read poems for Arbor Day at the Charles Baber Cemetery.

After graduation, Gavin plans to attend Pennsylvania State University to major in Bio Medical Science and minor in Spanish. He plans to become a Biomedical Scientist or a Physician’s Assistant.

Olivia Kopinetz

Olivia Kopinetz is the daughter of Evelyn and Brandon Kopinetz, Minersville. Her school activities consist of Health Occupation Students of America and Skills USA Clubs at the Schuylkill Technology Center. Olivia is also a member of the Minersville Soccer and Softball Teams.

In the community, she volunteers with Youth Soccer, Tee Ball, and traveled with her father as part of the Skook Road Trip Relief to bring food to hurricane survivors.

After graduation, Olivia plans to attend Bloomsburg University to study Biology.

Robert Bruce

Robert Bruce is the son of Brenda Bruce, Minersville. His school activities include Student Council, Aevidum Club, Minersville TV Studio. Robert is also a member of the Football and Track & Field Teams.

Outside of school, Robert volunteers at borough events and with the Miners Junior Track Project.

After graduation, he plans to attend Penn State University to major in engineering.

Miranda Burkot

Miranda Burkot is the daughter of Mark and Donna Burkot, Pottsville. Her school activities consist of: Volleyball, Academic Team, DAY Club, Interact Club, International Club, Math Club, Prom Committee, Student Ambassadors, Student Government, and Yearbook Club.

She volunteers as a PA Youth Ambassador and for the Schuylkill County Youth Summit. Miranda also organized a hygiene drive for Servants to All Homeless Shelter.

After graduation, she plans to continue her education at a four-year university to major in Biology. Miranda plans to obtain her medical degree to become a cardiologist.

Nolan Daynorowicz

Nolan Daynorowicz is the son of Amanda and Brandon Daynorowicz, Ringtown. His school activities are Football, Track and Field, Math Club, Ski Club, Chess Club, Academic Team, Student Council, and Interact Club. Nolan volunteers as an Altar Server / Lector at Divine Mercy Parish, for Salvation Army Fundraising, and at the St. Patrick's Church Thanksgiving Food Drive.

After graduation he plans to earn a degree in Nuclear Engineering and become a Naval Officer on a nuclear- powered vessel.
