The flurries weren’t the only things flying Friday in Shenandoah.
Just around noon, a small plane circled Veterans Memorial Stadium and then in an instant, Santa Claus and two of his trusty elves jumped from it, parachuting in to the stadium as several hundred people waited at the surface for them to land.
First, the two elves came down and then, with much jubilation, the jolliest of all the elves made his triumphant landing, officially kicking off the Christmas season in Shenandoah and Schuylkill County.
The unique way Santa Claus comes to town is brought to Shenandoah by Mrs. T’s Pierogies. This special event is now in its 17th consecutive year and revived an old tradition in the borough.
On the ground, children and families gathered and had a chance to meet Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and enjoy refreshments from the Shenandoah Valley Marching Band Boosters.
After a short break from his landing, Santa hopped aboard an antique firetruck and rode through Shenandoah, led and followed by first responder vehicles, en route to Borough Hall, where children had a chance to get photos with him and tell him their Christmas wishes.
