Rodney Rivers, the former Ohio man charged with vehicular homicide for his role in a fatal crash in Cass Township earlier this year, is expected to enter a guilty plea and be sentenced this week.
According to this week’s court schedule, Rivers is expected to enter a guilty plea and receiving sentencing in this case at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Courtroom 3 before Judge Christina Hale.
Rivers, 46, was the driver who fled from Minersville Police on Route 901 on the evening of Feb. 9 and eventually crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Elizabeth Ryan, 65, of Pottsville.
Ryan was killed in the crash. Two of her grandchildren on board with her were injured.
Following an initial investigation into the crash, Rivers was charged by police with vehicular homicide, 3 counts of vehicular aggravated assault, 3 counts of causing an accident that resulted in death or injury without a valid license, and numerous other charges.
In their complaint against Rivers, police say Rivers was speeding at the time of the crash, had a prior DUI conviction, an improper vehicle registration, and didn’t have insurance.
Rivers’ case was moved to Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas back in late-February following a preliminary hearing before District Magistrate David Rossi.
