Parks and recreation projects in three Schuylkill County communities were recently awarded state grants.
According to information from State Sen. Dave Argall, the grant funding comes from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program.
The following projects were awarded funds:
- $65,000 to Cass Township to further develop Forestville Playground: This money will be used toward the construction of a pickleball court and pedestrian walkways as well as the installation of new playground equipment and other improvements.
- $500,000 to Schuylkill River Greenway Association: Funding will be used to develop the Schuylkill River Trail in Blythe and New Castle townships as well as Saint Clair. A total of 4.6 miles of trail will be constructed using this money.
- $67,500 to West Mahanoy Township: This money will be used to rehab Altamont Park. Work tabbed with this money includes the installation of new playground equipment and other improvements to the park.
In a statement, Argall says, “I’m very grateful that these dollars–this highly competitive funding–will improve opportunities for my constituents to enjoy the natural beauty of our area.”
State Rep. Tim Twardzik (PA-123) adds, “By expanding and enhancing public spaces, we’re fostering safe, welcoming areas where residents of all ages can come together, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors. These fantastic projects will make our neighborhoods more inviting and welcoming, sparking more community pride.”
