Pottsville Rotary Club Honors November 2024 Students of the Month

Pottsville Rotary Club recently honored its Students of the Month for the month of November 2024.

The students from Pottsville Area High School, Minersville Area High School, and Nativity BVM High School were honored during the Rotary Club’s weekly meeting on Nov. 6 at Vito’s Coal Fired Restaurant, Saint Clair.

Receiving honors this month are:

Pottsville Area High School

Elizabeth Martinko  

Elizabeth Martinko is the daughter of Kim and John Martinko, Pottsville. Her school activities consist of: varsity volleyball team member, swim team member, MiniTHON president, AID treasurer, student council treasurer, Key Club treasurer, Publications editor and chief, and two-year National Honors Society member.

In the community, Elizabeth is a volunteer for Pottsville Recreation community events and participated at Key Club clean up events. 

After graduation, Elizabeth plans to attend Penn State University Park to study Biotechnology and become Clinical Laboratory Scientist. 

Carter Strouse  

Carter Strouse is the son of Kimberly Szalku and Doug Strouse, St. Clair.  His school include Golf, Basketball Team Manager, Homeroom Representative, Foreign Language Club, Pod Casting Club, National Honor Society, and French National Honor Society.

In the community, Carter is a Rubik’s Cube Competition Organizer.

After graduation, Carter plans to attend Pennsylvania State University or the University of Pittsburgh as a Mathematics Major to become a Mathematician.

Minersville Area High School

Ayla Castle  

Ayla Castle is the daughter of Michael and Susan Castle, Minersville.  Her school activities consist of: Aevidum Club, SADD, National Honor Society, Student Council, Class Treasurer, Spanish Club, and a member of the Volleyball and Basketball Teams.

In the community, she volunteers with the Red Cross Blood Drive, Volleyball Concession Stand and Clover Club Fire Company. After graduation, Ayla plans to attend college to major in nursing.

AJ Halford  

Alexander J. (AJ) Halford is the son of Kelly and Tom Wiley, Minersville. Jamie and Jeff Rizzardi, Minersville.  His school activities consist of: Vice President of the Student Council, Vice President of the National Honor Society, Aevidum Club, Spanish Club, and a member of the Football, Basketball, Baseball and Golf Teams.

AJ volunteers at Little League baseball tryouts, midget football practice and Teener League Baseball. After graduation, AJ plans to attend college to major in nursing.  

Nativity BVM High School

Carleigh Palmieri

Carleigh Palmieri is the daughter of Melissa and Joseph Palmieri, Orwigsburg. Her school activities consist of: Interact Club, National Honors Society, Student Council representative, Four Year Varsity Golf member, three- year varsity softball member, and Student Ambassador. 

She volunteers as a Lector at St. John the Baptist Parish, Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving Meal Delivery Service volunteer, and St. John the Baptist Summer Festival volunteer. 

After Graduation she plans to continue her education at a 4- year university to study business and administration with the goal of becoming a successful business woman working for a Fortune 500 Company.

Liam Messina 

Liam Messina is the son of Vincent and Megan Messina, Ringtown. His school activities are Student Council, Varsity Soccer, Spring and Winter Track and Field, Golf, National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. He volunteers as an Altar Server. 

After graduation he plans to attend Susquehanna University and major in professional sales or business with the goal of becoming a successful salesman for a large company.
