FIRE RISK ELEVATED: Schuylkill County Residents Urged to Exercise Caution Due to Extremely Dry Conditions

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s bone dry outside.

It hasn’t rained in Schuylkill County in quite some time and in the last few days, relative humidity levels are about as low as they can go.

The National Weather Service in State College issued a Special Weather Statement for Saturday in Schuylkill County for an elevated risk of wildfires.

Relative humidity levels on Saturday will be as low as 25% and wind gusts between 20-30 mph are expected.

Schuylkill County residents are being urged to exercise caution around any ignition sources like machinery, cigarettes, or matches.

If any dry grass or leaves begins to burn, there is a risk of fire spreading quickly.

Further, the District Forester of Weiser Forest District, the State Department of Conservation of Natural Resources, and the Schuylkill County Office of Emergency Management are urging residents here to not burn any debris or start campfires during these very dry conditions.

Rain is not in the forecast for Schuylkill County for at least the next 10 days.
