A Mahanoy City man is in Schuylkill County Prison after allegedly threatening to kill a woman he believed was cheating on him.
According to court records obtained by The Canary, the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.
Police in Mahanoy City say they were dispatched to an active domestic dispute that involved a man armed with a knife.
When police arrived, they encountered a woman who said Joseph Feliciano-Mejias had grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her. Police say they observed red marks on the woman’s throat.
As police entered the home where they were dispatched, Feliciano-Mejias came downstairs and was detained by police.
The woman who called police then said that Feliciano-Mejias were in a back bedroom on the second floor when they started arguing with each other. She said Feliciano-Mejias believed she’d been with another man.
Feliciano-Mejias allegedly grabbed the woman by the throat, pushing her backwards into another room. That caused the woman to fall and hit her head, causing a lump to develop on the back of her head, police say.
The woman said she then grabbed her phone and dialed 9-1-1.
While she was on the phone, she said Feliciano-Mejias grabbed her by the throat again and then grabbed her phone and breaking it.
Feliciano-Mejias then allegedly grabbed a knife, pointing it at the woman’s throat, saying, “I’m going to kill you.”
The woman says when this happened, she ran out of the room, down the stairs and out to police as they were arriving.
Feliciano-Mejias was arraigned before District Magistrate David Plachko and remanded to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 cash bail.
He’ll come before District Magistrate Anthony Kilker on Oct. 10, when he’ll have to answer to misdemeanor charges of simple assault and terroristic threats, and a summary harassment charge.
