A Schuylkill County man who says he was on an acid trip is facing a number of charges related to his actions during it.
According to an affidavit filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Douglas Springer Jr., police were called to the area of Greenwood and E. Broad streets in the borough at about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 14.
Springer was responding to a call about a man jumping on cars and taking his clothes off.
When Springer arrived in front of Luigi’s Pizza, he says several other men were trying to reason with Xaviar Clymer, 18, of Tamaqua. Springer says he could tell Clymer was under the influence of something by the way he was acting and yelling.
Clymer was ordered to get on the ground by Springer, who had his Taser drawn. He refused and ran into Luigi’s Pizza. When Springer opened the door to the pizza shop, Clymer allegedly throw a bottle of water at the officer, missing and hitting the door frame.
Clymer then began swiping everything off the counter of the pizza shop in the direction of Springer. The officer ordered Clymer to stop what he was doing but the suspect refused.
When he reached for a chair, Springer says he deployed his Taser, hitting Clymer in the stomach and groin. This caused Clymer to go down on his back. Springer says he ordered Clymer to roll onto his stomach but he refused, trying to fight the officer.
Springer says he used his Taser a second time and was able to get Clymer into cuffs.
In the course of the investigation that morning, Springer says he learned that Clymer had jumped onto an occupied vehicle prior to causing a melee inside the pizza shop. When he jumped on the vehicle, Clymer allegedly snapped off the driver side mirror.
Springer transported Clymer to St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale for evaluation. After five hours, Clymer allegedly admitted to Springer that he’d dropped acid the previous night and didn’t remember anything after that.
Clymer is now facing a pair of third-degree misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct, a second-degree misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, and two summary offenses for public drunkenness and one for criminal mischief.
A Preliminary Hearing is set for Aug. 20 before District Magistrate Stephen Bayer.
