Here is our weekly roundup of Schuylkill County and other coal region players currently with Major League Baseball organizations in the 2024 season.
Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville Area) – Outfield, Rochester Red Wings
Blankenhorn headed into the season break on a bit of a power tear after enduring a slump prior.
He’s homered in 3 of his last 5 games for the Red Wings, bringing him to 19 for the season. That’s still tops on Rochester and tied for third-best in the entire International League.
Last week against Worcester, he homered in back-to-back games, on July 12 and 13.
Joe Nahas (Marian Catholic) – Pitcher, Tennessee Smokies
Nahas took his first loss of the season in a July 12 game against the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays).
He worked 2 innings of relief, allowing 2 hits. A wild pitch credited to Nahas allowed the winning run to score in a 5-4 game.
Nahas is now 1-1 on the season for the first-place Smokies.
Reggie Crawford (North Schuylkill) – Pitcher, Sacramento River Cats
Crawford remains on the injured list headed into the season break for the River Cats. He hasn’t pitched since a June 5 outing.
Thomas Schultz (Mount Carmel Area) – Pitcher, Wilmington Blue Rocks
Schultz continues to put up impressive numbers for the BlueRocks since his promotion. He appeared in two games recently against the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) and nearly silenced their bats.
In a game on July 11, Schultz worked one-third of an inning, walking 1 batter.
During an appearance on July 14, he worked 2 innings, allowing just 1 hit, striking out 1 and walking none.
Schultz’s ERA is down to 4.63.
Tom Reisinger (Mount Carmel Area) – Pitcher, Stockton Ports
Reisinger picked up his first win of the season in a relief appearance on July 12 against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Dodgers).
He worked 3 innings – the 5th through the 7th – allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2 in a 5-3 Ports victory.
Reisinger is now 1-1 on the season with a 6.75 ERA.
Kaleb Sophy (Blue Mountain) – Pitcher, Glacier Range Riders
Sophy posted a hard-earned loss in a July 11 game against the Boise Hawks.
In that start, the Blue Mountain grad went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 3 in a 3-0 Range Riders loss.
His season record is now at 4-2. His 51 strikeouts this season is good for 10th-best in the Pioneer League.
