Here is our weekly roundup of Schuylkill County and other coal region players currently with Major League Baseball organizations in the 2024 season.
Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville Area) – Outfield, Rochester Red Wings
It seems Blankenhorn was happy to see the end of June. It was a rough month at the plate for the Pottsville grad.
But it looks like he’s regaining the form that he possessed at the beginning of the 2024 season.
Blankenhorn snapped a streak of 18 games without a home run for the Red Wings with his 17th round-tripper on Tuesday against the Worcester Red Sox.
That was Blankenhorn’s first homer since a game on June 13. He only hit one in June after smacking a Triple-A best 15 through May.
Joe Nahas (Marian Catholic) – Pitcher, Tennessee Smokies
Nahas worked 2.2 innings of relief in a game for the Smokies on July 5. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 4 and walking 3.
The effort was good enough for him to earn his first win of the season.
Reggie Crawford (North Schuylkill) – Pitcher, Sacramento River Cats
Crawford is still on the Injured List for the River Cats. He hasn’t pitched since June 5.
The nature of his injury hasn’t been disclosed by the San Francisco Giants organization.
Thomas Schultz (Mount Carmel Area) – Pitcher, Wilmington Blue Rocks
Schultz has appeared in two games in July for the Blue Rocks, both against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.
On July 2, he managed to hang on in the 9th inning to preserve an 8-6 victory for Wilmington. Before that, he did allow 3 runs on 3 hits, including a home run.
In a game on July 6, Schultz pitched a perfect 6th inning in relief, striking out the side on just 16 pitches (10 for strikes).
Tom Reisinger (Mount Carmel Area) – Pitcher, Stockton Ports
Reisinger had a bit of a rough outing for the Ports in a game against the San Jose Giants back on July 1. In 3.2 innings of relief, he allowed 7 runs (5 of them earned) on 6 hits, in a 12-2 loss.
He rebounded nicely in a game against the Giants at home on July 6, going 3 innings in relief, allowing no runs on just 3 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1 batter.
Kaleb Sophy (Blue Mountain) – Pitcher, Glacier Range Riders
Sophy earned his fourth win of the season back on July 5 as his RangeRiders defeated the Great Falls Voyagers, 5-3. His record is now at 4-1.
In that game, Sophy pitched 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 9 batters and walking 2.
