More than 20,000 people are expected to visit Pottsville on Saturday for the 2024 Yuengling Stars & Stripes Summer Celebration.
It’s the third installment of the day-long festival that takes over downtown Pottsville.
The day gets started at 11 a.m. at the historic Yuengling Brewery on Mahantongo St. It concludes with a fireworks display following a free concert by country music star Lee Brice.
This year’s Summer Celebration marks the 195th anniversary of DG Yuengling & Son, known as America’s Oldest Brewery and one of the biggest businesses in Pottsville.
The event is part of the brewery’s partnership with Team Red, White & Blue, a non-profit serving the healthy needs of America’s veterans.
Previous Summer Celebration events were held in 2019 and 2022.
On Saturday, there will be three professional sound stages hosting a total of six bands located throughout the festival area. Hooligan will be playing in the VIP area.
Dozens of food trucks and vendors will line downtown Pottsville.
Beer gardens (for drafts) and new Crack & Go stations (for cans) will be set up throughout the festival area. Yuengling has nearly 200 kegs of Lager and Flight beers ready for the gardens. And the Crack & Go stations will be ready with 3,500 cans of those beers, too.
VIP tickets have been sold to people in six states.
All this week, event organizers are busily preparing to have the city ready to host a massive crowd that’s expected to converge here for the festival.
More than 200 volunteers have signed up to help through the day of the event, and the day after for clean-up. Organizers say a few more volunteers – some to serve as bartenders on Saturday night, specifically, and on Sunday for clean-up – are needed. Contact PADCO to help.
In excess of $330,000 is being spent to put on Saturday’s big show. Nearly one-third of that is for security, alone, organizers say.
“We couldn’t do this without our sponsors”, says Savas Logothetides, Executive Director at PADCO.
