Police Investigating Case of Animal Cruelty in Schuylkill County

Police say a makeshift chain used as a collar.

Police in Schuylkill County are investigating a case of suspected animal cruelty.

According to State Police-Frackville, troopers were dispatched on June 4 to a home along W. Pine St. in Sheppton, East Union Twp.

When police arrived, they spoke with a tenant at that address, Kiwanda Moore, 33, who they say consented to a search of her backyard.

As police arrived in the backyard, they found a 3-year-old male Siberian husky named Ace. Police say Ace did not have adequate potable water and shelter. There was a short metal chain, about a foot in length, attached to him that was being used as a leash.

A makeshift chain used as a collar on Ace had caused multiple neck injuries, police also allege.

Moore signed a form surrendering Ace to police. Police then contacted Animal Resource Center in Millville, Columbia County, and arranged for Ace to receive veterinary care and be adopted.

Police say they intend to file misdemeanor animal cruelty charges against Moore and another resident there, 42-year-old Roy Moore.
