Schuylkill County customers of UGI natural gas will see their bills go up at the end of this week and near the end of the year, too.
UGI Utilities, Inc. recently announced an increase in its natural gas rates starting June 1, with another rise expected on December 1.
From June 1, a typical residential heating customer using 73.6 hundred cubic feet (ccf) of natural gas per month will see their bill increase from $90.94 to $95.04, a rise of 4.5%. If the PUC approves UGI’s proposed rates for December, the same customer’s bill will increase to $101.99, a total increase of 7.3% from the current rate.
Commercial heating customers will face a 6.0% increase in their bills, moving from $262.30 to $278.05 per month starting in June.
A further increase to $304.68, up 9.6%, is projected for December. Industrial retail customers will also see a jump in their costs, with their bills rising from $778.91 to $829.49 in June, an increase of 6.5%. By December, their bills are expected to increase to $915.03, marking a 10.3% rise.
Paul Szykman, Chief Regulatory Officer at UGI, says in a statement, “Despite this increase, natural gas remains a clean, reliable, and cost-effective energy choice.”
UGI has prepared several options to help customers manage their bills, including budget billing and various payment methods through UGI’s online account center and app, as well as an auto-pay program. Customers can call UGI at 1-800-276-2722 for more details on the new rates or for assistance.
