Blue Mountain Superintendent Addresses Social Media Posts About Rumored School Shooting

Blue Mountain School District’s Superintendent tried assuring parents that an alleged threat of a school shooting on Friday has been mitigated.

In an email to anyone receiving Eagle Express emails, Supt. David Helsel says a “situation with a student at the high school today where a student made a comment that was interpreted as a threat of a school shooting.”

Helsel says that “comment” doesn’t specifically say a school shoot was going to happen.

“This situation is being addressed,” Helsel says. “The student will not be in school (Friday).”

Apparently, this “situation” generated several posts on social media since it happened and Helsel’s 9 p.m. email appears to address those posts in attempt to reassure the school community.

Helsel says the social media posts about school shooting threat name the student at Skylar White. However, Helsel reminds those worried about the threat that there is no Skylar White enrolled at Blue Mountain and it’s actually the name of Walter White’s wife on the TV show Breaking Bad.

“Rest assured, we are addressing the situation to ensure the safety of our students. Our armed security officers will be on high alert as a precaution,” Helsel says.
