Here is our weekly roundup of Schuylkill County players currently playing with Major League Baseball organizations in the 2024 season.
Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville Area) – Outfield, Rochester Red Wings
Travis Blankenhorn may have had his best week in professional baseball last week against the Toledo Mud Hens.
The Pottsville native homered in 4 of the 6 games Rochester played last week, including a 2 home run performance on Sunday. Those were his first 5 homers of the season.
He wasn’t just hitting for power, either, though half of his 10 hits last week did leave the park. Blankenhorn went 10-for-21 at the plate in the 6-game series, including 2 doubles, a triple, and drove in 8 runs.
That performance at the plate raised his early-season average from .261 to .328.
This week, Blankenhorn’s Red Wings visit St. Paul, Minnesota, to take on the Saints.
Reggie Crawford (North Schuylkill) – Pitcher, San Francisco Giants organization
Last week, North Schuylkill alum Reggie Crawford made his Double-A debut with the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the Eastern League against the Harrisburg Senators.
And in his first day with the club, he got an abbreviated start on the mound, pitching a scoreless inning in which he struck out 1 and walked a batter.
Crawford’s strikeout came against a rehabbing MLB player, Stone Garrett, when he whipped a 98 mph fastball by him. (See: Crawford Ks Big Leaguer In Double-A Debut At Harrisburg)
He appeared in relief on Saturday, going 2 innings and striking out 3 batters while walking just 1.
So far this season, Crawford has not allowed a hit over 3 innings.
This week, the Flying Squirrels return home for a series against the Bowie Baysox.
Joe Nahas (Marian Catholic) – Pitcher, South Bend Cubs
Nahas appeared in 2 games in relief this past week for the South Bend Cubs.
On Friday, the Marian Catholic grad had a bit of a rough outing, allowing a home run, 3 earned runs, and 3 hits.
However, he redeemed himself on Sunday against Beloit, earning his first save of the season in an inning of relief, striking out 1 and not allowing a hit.
So far this season, Nahas has appeared in 4 games and 8 innings for South Bend, striking out 8 and walking 6 batters. His ERA is at 3.38.
This week, South Bend is at home for a series with the Quad Cities River Bandits.
