Here is our weekly roundup of Schuylkill County players currently playing with Major League Baseball organizations in the 2024 season.
Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville Area) – Outfield, Rochester Red Wings
Travis Blankenhorn is back with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings (Nationals) to start the 2024 season.
On Sunday, Blankehorn went 0-2 with 2 walks in a 17-0 Red Wings loss to the Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays).
In the 6-game series with the Bisons, Blankenhorn went 5-for-26 at the plate with a pair of doubles and 4 RBI.
He’s now hitting .257 on the season with a home run and 9 RBI. The 9 RBI is second-highest on the Red Wings.
Rochester is 6-6 to start the 2024 season. This week, the Red Wings will be at home for a 6-game series with Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers).
Reggie Crawford (North Schuylkill) – Pitcher, San Francisco Giants organization
North Schuylkill grad Reggie Crawford suffered a lat strain in Spring Training after getting a non-roster invite to the San Francisco Giants camp.
He’s been on the shelf since but indications are Crawford could be ready to make his 2024 very soon.
For this season, the Giants organization wants the one-time two-way prospect to focus on his pitching. And he could be debuting this year for the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Eastern League.
If that happens, it could be good news for Schuylkill County fans of Crawford when the Squirrels visit Reading or Harrisburg.
Last year, Crawford finished the season with the High-A Eugene Emeralds.
Joe Nahas (Marian Catholic) – Pitcher, South Bend Cubs
Marian Catholic High School graduate Joe Nahas is back with the South Bend Cubs in the High-A Midwest League.
On Sunday, Nahas pitched 2.1 innings of relief for the Cubs, striking out 1, walking 1, and allowing 1 hit in a 9-6 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers).
Last Wednesday, Nahas made his 2024 debut for South Bend against Wisconsin, also throwing 2.1 innings, scattering 2 hits, walking 2 batters, and striking out 3.
In 2 appearances, Nahas has not allowed a run.
South Bend is off to a slow start to the season with a 3-6 record. This week, the Cubs have a 6-game road series with Beloit Sky Carp (Marlins).
