14-Year-Old in Coaldale Charged Over Threat to “Shoot Up My School”

Threat was made in an online video game, police say.

Police in Coaldale say they’re charging a 14-year-old over a threat he made online about committing a school shooting.

According to a statement from Coaldale Police Officer Joseph Krebs, borough police were notified by Pennsylvania State Police’s “Watch Center” at about 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 9 regarding information received from the Federal Bureau of Investigations about the threat.

The threat from the boy was allegedly made in an online video game. The boy apparently wrote in the game, “I’m going to shoot up my school.”

Law enforcement officials were able to track the source of that threat by IP address to an address in Coaldale.

When officers arrived at the address, they say the 14-year-old confessed to making the threat.

Police say he’s being charged with making terroristic threats. They believe there’s no threat to the public or any school districts in the area as a result of this incident.

Krebs says in his statement that “no further comment at this time” about his investigation will be made.
